Direct Debit

No one in business likes to waste time and money. That's why more and more companies are switching to Direct Debit as the fastest, safest and most convenient way to be paid by consumers, customers and members.

Direct Debit achieves this by giving you:

  • Cleared funds in your account on precisely the right dates
  • Increased control, by knowing exactly which payments are received and when
  • Options for collecting variable amounts
  • Considerably improved cash flow
  • Improved accounting procedures as reconciliation is by exception

The 'Direct' Line to Business Economies

Direct Debit is surprisingly simple. Your customers agree to allow you to debit amounts due on certain dates. You collect the funds through your bank directly from their accounts, having advised them in advance of how much is to be debited and when.

Direct Debits differ from standing orders in that it is you who start the payment cycle, not your customer's bank. This can make all the difference when it comes to making sure you receive precisely the right amount, on exactly the right date.

Applying for Direct Debit Status

Before you can commence collecting Direct Debits, you need to apply at your bank account's holding branch to become a Direct Debit originator.

Please download our free Direct Debit Guide which explains the whole procedure in easy steps.

Direct Debits can be collected via the BACSTEL IP service, with appropriate software. APT is accredited by BACS and its BACSTEL-iP compliant software, iConnect, is a versatile and easy to use system which will manage all your Direct Debit and AUDDIS transmissions. Click here for more information.

It is a requirement for Direct Debit Originators to check their data prior to transmitting to BACS. APT can help you with an online verification service that enables quick and accurate checking. Click here for more information.
